Excerpt from Avalanche, a Coyote Canyon Mystery

When the law becomes the prime suspect, justice turns deadly.

When Sam arrived at his office, he walked in and without saying a word, he went straight to the armory closet. He came back out with a .308 rifle and walked back through the room toward the rear door.

“Sam, don’t forget about the avalanche mitigation later this morning on Grizzly Mountain,” Deputy Mitch Hunter called out.

Sam stopped and turned back to the group of deputies sitting at their desks.“Do you all know your assigned spots to keep the public out of the runout zone?”

They all responded that they did.

Sam looked at his watch. “You should get going then.”

“Where are you going with that rifle?” Sergeant Emma Long asked.

He paused before replying. “I’m taking it to a gunsmith in Livingston to get the firing pin repaired.”

“The firing pin needs fixed?” Mitch asked.

Sam ignored his deputy and went out the door.
