Prime Crime Conference October 28-30, 2022

This past weekend, I attended Prime Crime at the Columbia Club (formerly Magna cum Murder), a mystery conference for writers and readers held Indianapolis, Indiana. This was the third time I have attended and the first Prime Crime since the pandemic kept it from being held for the last few years. After going through two postponements, they finally were able to have the conference again in October 2022. The attendance was smaller than previous years, but hopefully that was only due to the changes in dates so many times. As such, there weren't as many panels as in previous years, which wasn't really a bad thing. It made it easier not to have to chose between what panel to attend.

I attended with with friend and author, E.M. Munch, on the right in the photo. Her book, A Haunting at Marian Wood was released just a few days before the conference. As a side note, I highly recommend Elaine's book. It's such a good read. I also met so many wonderful authors at the conference. In the panel photo with Elaine, is Patricia McLinn, a USA Today bestselling writer from northern Kentucky, and Trace Conger, another fantastic writer from the Cincinnati area (photo in collage at the end of the post).

The highlight of my trip was getting to meet and talk with bestselling author, and Guest of Honor, C.J. Box. I just love his Cassie Dewell series that the ABC television show, Big Sky is based on. The photo on the left is of myself, C.J. Box, Elaine, and author Lynda Rees. Elaine, Lynda, and I well represented the Derby Rotten Scoundrels Sisters in Crime chapter out of Louisville, Kentucky. Also present at the conference, were several members of the Sisters in Crime Speed City Writers from Indianapolis that we were happy to visit with. And, as always, it was so good seeing friends, authors, and owners of Per Bastet Publications, Marian Allen, Sara Marian, and T. Lee Harris.

My "oh-my-gosh" moment of the conference was stepping onto the elevator at the hotel and seeing a gentleman holding several books he had just bought, and one of them was mine. What an awesome feeling that was. He later had me sign the book for him.

Prime Crime is a great conference. I hope the low attendance won't keep them from holding it again.

Below is a collage of photos from the conference. Some of them I took and some are from the Prime Crime Facebook page.

Jeffersonville Library Author Meet and Greet

I was thrilled with the turnout for my presentation at the Jeffersonville, Indiana Public Library Author Meet and Greet. I spoke about the research I did on witchcraft for my latest Nathan Perry Mystery, Witch Hunt. I love answering all the questions the group had.

I highly recommend anytime you can hear an author speak, rather you're familiar with them or not, you should do it.

I also want to thank Jen Selinsky and Taylor Bary for giving me several copies of their books.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good: On August 6 at 1:30 pm, I'll be speaking at the Jeffersonville, Indiana Library about my Nathan Perry Mystery Series. I'll specifically be talking about the latest book in the series, Witch Hunt and the research I did for the book. I'll be available afterward for signing and will have the books available for $15.00 each. Seating is limited. You can register at http://jefflibrary.org under Events, then Calendar of Events. I hope to see you there.

The Bad: I attended the Imaginarium Convention last weekend and took a little tumble as soon as I got there Friday morning. My shoe caught on the carpet and down I went. Like a trooper, I stayed all day Friday, sitting on my panels and at my table. Afterward, I went to the ER. After 8 1/2 hours, they said nothing was broken, just a very badly bruised knee. Which brings me to:

The Ugly:

At least nothing was broken. It will just take some time to heal.

I'm in Barnes & Noble

My books have always been on the Barnes & Noble web site, but I'm excited to announce that all three of my Nathan Perry Mystery Series books are now in one of their brick and mortar stores.

I live in southern Indiana near Louisville, Kentucky and the Barnes & Noble with my books is located on Hurstbourne Pkwy in Louisville. I went there yesterday and signed all of the books. So, if you are in the area, you can stop by pick up an autographed copy.

Of course, you can still find them on just about any online bookstore also.

My First Tattoo

For a long time now, my daughter and I have talked about going together to get tattoos. She already had a couple, but I didn't have any. A few weeks ago, we decided to do it. I was excited, and couldn't wait. We went to a local tattoo artist that my daughter had been to before, and she was excellent.

Above, on the left, I'm getting the stencil applied, and on the right is what it looked like after the stencil. It took me a few days to decide that I wanted two stacked books on my wrist.

It really wasn't painful. The artist told me it would feel like cat scratches. She was right, about a thousand cat scratches. LOL

The left photo is after she put the plastic bandage on it, and the right is how it looked yesterday, after a couple weeks. It still has a little more healing to do, but I really love it.

Will get another tattoo? You bet I will! Don't worry, I'm not going to go crazy and get a whole sleeve. Sometime before Fall gets here, I want to get a mug of coffee on my ankle.

On February 23, 2022, I was a guest on the Star Chamber Show podcast. I had a wonderful time talking about my new book, Witch Hunt, and all things writing. In case you missed it, you can still listen to the show at the Blog Talk Radio page for the Star Chamber Show.

I highly recommend any of their episodes. They always have some interesting creatives as guests.

Release Day for Witch Hunt, a Nathan Perry Mystery

I'm excited to announce that today is release day for the third book in my Nathan Perry Mystery Series, Witch Hunt. This is my favorite of the three books so far. I hope you will enjoy it too.

Is it 1692 all over again?

When a millionaire?s daughter is found hanging from a tree in the Mystic, Massachusetts cemetery, witchcraft is suspected. Police detective Nathan Perry is assigned the case and works closely with an attractive female private investigator hired by the father to find who murdered his daughter.

Mystic is known for its history of witchcraft in the area. It?s what brings tourists to town, and when another murder occurs, there is rising pressure on Nathan to solve the case quickly.

Nathan's investigation pulls him into an unfamiliar world rife with covens, magic, and lore to find the killer.  A small town gripped in fear is depending on him to prevail.
